IncrediMail is used mainly by youngsters because it is very fun to operate.

This post will focus on the mailbox of IncrediMail and then we will see a comparison of these two: their similarities, their differences etc.

Where IncrediMail stores its data?

storedirectory

1 – Launch your IncrediMail

Mailbox in IncrediMail 2.5:-

For example, if the user has two accounts in IncrediMail then there would be two folders (long string) in the identities folder.

AddressBook

When you will open the ‘Identities’, you will see the list of folders and the important folders in this list are: Address Book and Message Store. Let us first talk about Address Book, in this folder you will see two file, one would be having the file extension of ‘.db3’ and the other extension’.db3.bak’.

The file AddrBook.db3 contains all the address and the contacts of your IncrediMail accounts. AddrBook.db3 is different for every account which is configured in IncrediMail. So, if you ever want to know where your contacts are saved? Then Address Book is the folder you will open. The other file here AddrBook.db3.bak is a backup file of all your contacts and it’s created by default by IncrediMail only.

Message Store

Untitled-5

The next folder is Message Store has some important folders such as Attachments and Messages. The Attachments folder is going to of course save all the attachments which are present in your mailbox. Moving on to the Messages folder, it contains folders depending on the accounts you have in your IncrediMail like you have an IncrediMail account and other Gmail account then you will see the folder ‘1’ that would be for IncrediMail and will contain all the messages for that account. Folder ‘2’ will contain all the Gmail messages and it will go on.

Open Messages>>1>> (long string)>>msg.iml – with this step you will see the .iml files in your mailbox.

IML files here are similar to EML files, they are stores as an individual files. Every new email is saved as a separate IML file in a separate string.  If the user has any attachments in mail then there would be a new folder naming ‘Attachments’ which will store all the attachments present inside that mail.

Now let us come back to the Message Store folder, here you will see a ‘MessageStore.db’ file which means it is database file as we can get it by looking at the extension of this file. The MessageStore.db file stores the data (messages) of IncrediMail. IncrediMail also uses the SQLite3 which manages and saves the database.  A .db file is a database file that is able to store the data in a planned format, basically like arrangement of the tables, filed values etc.

Mailbox in IncrediMail 2.0:-

The store location and the process of getting the store location from the IncrediMail 2.0 are same as it is explained above.

AddressBook

When the user opens the ‘Identities’ then the main folders here are AddressBook and Message Store. AddressBook in IncrediMail 2.0 is same as it is in IncrediMail 2.5, it works same and the user has no problem locating and knowing the contacts of mail accounts. AddressBook is created differently for different identities, not much is changed in AddressBook of IncrediMail 2.0 in comparison with AddressBook of IncrediMail 2.5.

Message Store

When you double click on Message Store you will see the various items such as containers.db, Deleted items.imm, inbox items.imm, sent items.imm etc.

Let us see all of them one by one and what they mean?  Containers.db, it does and behaves in the same way as MessageStore.db did in IncrediMail 2.5. It contains all of your messages which are stored in IncrediMail 2.0. The difference between IncrediMail 2.0 and IncrediMail 2.5 mailbox is that when in IncrediMail you go to the Messages by following this location:  Open Messages>>then, 1>> (long string)>>then, you will see deleted items.imm, inbox items.imm, sent items.imm.

In IncrediMail 2.0 there is no separate folder for each file and the files saved are in the mailbox format which is present in the IMM file format.

Conclusion

Now, if the user wants to view the files and the user is not having both containers.db and MessageStore.db then also it is not a problem. The user will face problem in viewing their IncrediMail data because there is no perfect solution present in the market which is capable to view your IncrediMail messages, but you can solve this problem by using IncrediMail Viewer.
